HCMC – The Government has tasked the Ministry of Transport with disbursing nearly VND94.2 trillion of public investment in 2023, up 1.7-fold against the 2022 figure and 2.2-fold versus 2021.
The ministry chaired a meeting on the 2023 public investment disbursement yesterday, February 1. According to the ministry, it had registered to disburse VND72 trillion of public investment this year, but the Government assigned it an extra amount of over VND22 trillion.
Hence, the ministry will have to disburse over VND94 trillion.
Last year, the ministry disbursed 96% of public investment, higher than the nation’s average of 92% and a 1.3-fold rise against the 2021 disbursement rate, said Bui Quang Thai, head of the ministry’s Planning and Investment Department.
The ministry is expected to disburse some VND8 trillion each month.
To ensure public investment disbursement is done as planned, Minister of Transport Nguyen Van Thang asked project management boards, investors and relevant agencies to speed up work on their projects. Besides, project management units were told to tackle and replace contractors that violate contract terms.
This year, the Transport Ministry is set to break ground on 24 new projects and complete 29 others. Among them, the ministry will focus on completing seven sub-projects of the big-ticket North-South Expressway project in the 2017-2020 period and the My Thuan-Can Tho Expressway project, facilitating the progress of other projects such as the Rach Mieu 2 Bridge in Ben Tre Province, a bypass of the National Highway 1A section passing through Ca Mau Province.
