HCMC – The 416th and 418th Covid-19 patients, who are two locally-transmitted cases under treatment at Danang City Hospital, are critically ill, with the health condition of the 418th being more severe.

The 416th case, aged 57, has been on an extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) for four days. He has been receiving blood purification treatment and still needs a ventilator, with a high risk of succumbing to the respiratory disease.

Regarding the 418th patient, health experts prognosed that this 61-year-old case could be at a higher risk of severe illness from Covid-19 as he is older than the 416th and has many underlying medical conditions.

Also, he has required ventilator support and continuous blood filtration therapy. Doctors suggested providing ECMO treatment for him.

ECMO is a life support machine which allows patients’ lungs and hearts to improve and function properly
