HCMC – Typhoon Goni, the 10th storm expected to hit Vietnam this year, could move west-southwest at 10-15 kilometers per hour and weaken into a tropical depression as it makes landfall in central provinces in the next 24 hours, said the national weather center.

As of 10 a.m. on November 5, the typhoon was spotted some 220 kilometers east of the coastal areas from Quang Ngai to Phu Yen, packing gusty winds at level 10.

For the next 24-36 hours, the tropical depression will continue to move west-southwest at some 10 kilometers per hour and downgrade to a low pressure zone.

By 10 p.m. on November 6, the low pressure area may be located in eastern Cambodia, packing winds blowing at less than 40 kilometers per hour.

The unfavorable weather could trigger strong winds at level 7, gusting at level 10 in the sea areas from Quang Nam to Ninh Thuan, along with high tides of 4-5 meters and extremely rough seas.

Strong winds at level 7 also hit the coastal mainland of Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh and Phu Yen this evening.

Further, heavy rains may occur in the central and Central Highlands localities including Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Danang, Gia lai and Kon Tum between November 5 and 7, with rainfall measuring 100-350 millimeters.
