HCMC – Typhoon Prapiroon weakened into a tropical depression when it made landfall in Quang Ninh Province and Haiphong City, and dumped heavy rain, the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting reported on July 23. This was the second storm to hit the country this year.

The tropical depression brought strong winds to Co To Island, with gusts at level 10, and to Bach Long Vi Island, with gusts up to level 12, resulting in rough seas.

The northeastern region had moderate to heavy rainfall, with Cat Ba in Haiphong receiving 310mm, Quang Yen in Quang Ninh 173mm, and Van Mai in Hoa Binh 138mm.

By 10 p.m. today, the tropical depression is expected to move northwest at a speed of 5-10 kilometers per hour and weaken into a low-pressure area over the northern mountainous region.

From this afternoon to the end of July 24, downpours and thunderstorms are expected in the northern region and Thanh Hoa, with rainfall ranging from 60-120mm in the northeastern region and Thanh Hoa, and over 250mm elsewhere.

The northwestern region and Nghe An will see rainfall between 50 and 100mm, with some areas receiving over 200mm.
