HCMC – The Vietnam Expressway Corporation (VEC) has proposed expanding the Ben Luc-Long Thanh expressway interchange with National Highway 50 to six lanes.
The proposal is aimed at making the interchange compatible with the National Highway 50 upgrade and expansion project, according to a recent report sent to the Ministry of Transport.
The primary goal of these modifications is to enhance safety and optimize traffic flow at the expressway interchange within the city. Technical solutions will be employed to ensure the safety of commuters and improve the movement of vehicles.
VEC’s proposed adjustments are aimed at making the interchange compatible with the ongoing infrastructure development led by the southern metropolis.
However, financial constraints for the Ben Luc-Long Thanh expressway project present challenges. The Ministry of Transport recognized these difficulties in securing additional funding for supplementary items and suggested a phased approach.
Thus, VEC said it intends to proceed with the investment in the expressway interchange in line with the approved scale for the initial phase.
The ministry proposed HCMC carefully consider the appropriate timing for investing in the Rung Sac junction. This junction is not included in the Ben Luc-Long Thanh expressway project due to non-approval by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
If the suggested adjustments are approved, they will require additional procedures for investment realignment and budget supplementation, potentially extending the project’s timeline.
