HCMC – Vietnam is determined to oppose Taiwan’s live-fire drills on Ba Binh Island in the Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago, demanding that Taiwan stop its military exercises, Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang said at a press briefing today, December 2.

“Taiwan’s military exercises in the Ba Binh waters off the Spratly Archipelago violate Vietnam’s sovereignty over the archipelago and threaten peace, stability, security and safety of navigation in the East Sea,” Hang stated.

“Vietnam demands Taiwan cease repeating similar violations,” noted Hang.

Ba Binh is the largest island within Vietnam’s Spratly Archipelago. Taiwan is illegally seizing the island and has sent naval forces to the island since 2000.

Vietnam has repeatedly demanded Taiwan stop military drills on the island and the surrounding waters, the local media reported.
