HCMC – The HCMC Department of Health confirmed its second case of monkeypox this morning, October 20, a 38-year-old female resident of Tuyen Quang Province, who traveled to Dubai between September 29 and October 18.

The patient displayed symptoms of fever with fatigue, nausea and rashes on several body parts from October 11. Reportedly, she stayed with the first monkeypox patient in the same accommodation in Dubai.

When she noticed her friend had similar symptoms, the first patient informed the HCMC Center of Disease Control (HCDC) and sought support.

The HCDC and medical staff at the Tan Son Nhat International Airport kept the woman in a quarantine area for a health check-up right after she arrived.

The woman was then sent to the Hospital for Tropical Diseases for further diagnosis and treatment. On October 19, the PCR test showed that she was positive for monkeypox.

The HCDC will continue to track those in direct contact with the patient to prevent the spread of the disease.

Vietnam reported its first case of monkeypox in HCMC on October 3. After three weeks of treatment, the patient tested negative for monkeypox and was discharged on October 14.
