HCMC – Vietnam became the top Southeast Asian destination for South Korean visitors in April, according to data from South Korea’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
More than 846,400 South Koreans visited Vietnam last month, accounting for nearly a third of 2.7 million South Koreans who traveled to Southeast Asia during the month.
The Philippines ranked second with 364,875 South Korean visitors, followed by Thailand with 356,319 visitors.
The increasing number of South Korean tourists to Vietnam has led airlines to add flights and launch new air routes.
In addition to the popular destination of Danang, South Korean tourists are increasingly favoring Nha Trang, Phu Quoc and Dalat. In April alone, 173,865 passengers flew from Seoul to Danang, while 141,130 traveled to Nha Trang. Phu Quoc recorded 53,680 arrivals, indicating its growing popularity.
Low-cost carriers are expanding their services to Vietnam. T’way Air launched a daily Busan-Nha Trang flight in May, bringing its total services to Nha Trang to three, including flights from Incheon and Cheongju. The airline will also restart the Daegu-Nha Trang route on June 19, which was previously suspended due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Eastar Jet, which already operates the Incheon-Nha Trang route, will start a new route to Phu Quoc on July 19, with seven weekly round trips. This expansion reflects the increasing interest of South Korean travelers in Vietnam’s tourist destinations.
