HCMC – Vietnam is considering extending the proposed HCMC–Can Tho railway to Ca Mau, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh announced on December 15 during a meeting with voters in Can Tho’s Co Do District.
This initiative is part of broader efforts to modernize the country’s infrastructure, complementing the North-South high-speed railway project that will connect Hanoi and HCMC.
The Prime Minister outlined ambitious infrastructure goals for 2025, including the completion of 3,000 kilometers of expressways and improvements across all major transport modes—road, rail, air, sea, and inland waterways. In the Mekong Delta region, the plan targets the construction of 400–500 kilometers of expressways to enhance regional connectivity.
During the meeting, local voters voiced concerns about transport infrastructure, water security, and sustainable farming. They urged the Government to prioritize investment in highways, railways, and industrial zones, while also addressing environmental issues such as flooding and saltwater intrusion.
In response, Chinh acknowledged these challenges and reiterated the Government’s commitment to key development initiatives. These include the one-million-hectare sustainable rice farming project and the establishment of a central agricultural processing hub to support the region’s economic growth.
