HCMC – Vietnamese and German officials and businesses signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on logistics cooperation yesterday, December 21, focusing on air freight transportation.

The parties included the authorities of Leipzig City, Invest Region Leipzig, VietjetAir Cargo Joint Stock Company, Tay Bac Investment Group Joint Stock Company, and Vigerlaw Company Limited.

According to Vietnamese Ambassador to Germany Vu Quang Minh, the initiative would serve as a stepping stone for the two nations’ cooperation in air transportation and logistics.

Trade Counselor Bui Vuong Anh said the direction of growth might offer a competitive advantage for Vietnam’s export-driven economy due to the comparatively low cost of infrastructure in air freight transportation.

The stakeholders highlighted the prospects for cooperation and investment between Vietnam and Germany, expressing optimism in light of the implementation of the European Union-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement.

From November 11 to December 2, the Leipzig authorities visited Vietnam and had some working sessions with local partners.

As a result, VietjetAir Cargo announced operating weekly cargo flights between Vietnam and Germany beginning early next year.

Leipzig is a major logistics hub for European nations, with Leipzig/Halle Airport ranking second in Germany in aviation freight transport.
