HCMC – The Ministry of Health has just announced one more coronavirus infection case this evening, April 5, bringing the cumulative total number of confirmed cases in the country to 241.

The latest case is a 20-year-old Vietnamese student in the UK and a resident in Thao Dien Ward in HCMC’s District 2. On March 21, he traveled from London to Vietnam on Vietnam Airlines flight VN005.

Upon his arrival at Can Tho International Airport the next day, he showed no symptoms of Covid-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus, but was still brought to a quarantine center in Bac Lieu Province, south of Can Tho City. On March 25, the patient tested negative for the virus, known as SARS-CoV-2.

On March 31, the patient developed a fever and a sore throat, so he was taken to Bac Lieu General Hospital for isolation and treatment. On April 1, the HCMC Pasteur Institute announced his positive test result.

Other people who are sharing the same room with him at the quarantine center are still asymptomatic. But they have been in isolation for 14 days.

Earlier today, the 57th patient, a 66-year-old British man, was discharged from Quang Nam Central General Hospital in Quang Nam Province after he had been treated since March 16. He is the 91st patient who has recovered from the disease in the country. He tested negative for the virus on March 31 and April 4.

His wife was not infected but isolated at the same hospital, so both of them were released from the hospital on the same day.

Vietnam has reported no Covid-19 fatalities so far.
