HCMC – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh of Vietnam departed Hanoi early today (November 5) for China to participate in a series of high-level regional summits.
The agenda includes the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) Cooperation Summit, the Ayeyawady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS) Summit, and the Cambodia-Laos-Myanmar-Vietnam (CLMV) Summit, reported the Vietnam News Agency (VNA).
Chinh’s four-day visit follows an invitation from China’s Premier Li Qiang.
He is leading a Vietnamese delegation that will join the eighth GMS Summit, the 10th ACMECS Summit, and the 11th CLMV Summit, with key Vietnamese officials also attending.
This event marks the first in-person meeting of the GMS, ACMECS, and CLMV leaders since 2018, as these high-level summits are typically held every three and two years, respectively.
The summits take place amid strengthening Vietnam-China relations, which have grown into a comprehensive strategic partnership.
Trade and economic ties have deepened, with bilateral trade reaching US$171.9 billion in 2023. China remains Vietnam’s largest trade partner and second-largest export market, while Vietnam stands as China’s top trade partner in ASEAN and fifth globally.
