HCMC – Vietnamese consumers are among the most receptive in Asia Pacific to using AI in online shopping and are adopting international payment tools at rates above the regional average, according to a recent survey by Visa.

This trend suggests that digital commerce is rapidly reshaping the shopping and payment behaviors of Vietnamese consumers.

The latest Visa Consumer 360 survey found that 57% of 1,000 Vietnamese consumers surveyed are willing to use AI during online shopping, exceeding the Asia Pacific average of 50%.

According to Visa, consumers are increasingly open to using AI to search for information, compare products, and support purchasing decisions. This is one indication that new technologies are gradually becoming part of everyday consumer experiences.

In addition to AI, cross-border payments are also seeing strong adoption in Vietnam. The survey found that 56% of consumers own multi currency cards and 34% have used them, compared with regional averages of 52% and 28%, respectively.

Visa said this reflects growing demand for international transactions, ranging from online shopping to travel and spending abroad. Across the Asia Pacific region, credit cards have now surpassed cash to become the most commonly used payment method during international trips.

Dang Tuyet Dung, Visa country manager for Vietnam and Laos, said Vietnamese consumers are among the most optimistic in the region, reflecting the growth of the digital economy and the strong momentum of digital transformation.

However, alongside growing interest in AI, consumers continue to express concerns about personal data security, the accuracy of information, and the risk of unintended transactions. This highlights the importance of secure payment and transaction platforms in maintaining user trust.

As consumers become increasingly familiar with digital tools, barriers to AI powered shopping and cross border payments are gradually diminishing, creating additional momentum for the growth of digital commerce in Vietnam.
