HCMC – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has called on the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC) to deepen cooperation with Vietnamese partners, particularly through investments in aircraft maintenance and repair centers in Vietnam.

The proposal was made during a meeting with COMAC Chairman He Dongfeng in Hanoi on April 14, as part of the Chinese delegation’s visit coinciding with that of General Secretary of the Communist Party of China and President of China Xi Jinping.

Prime Minister Chinh suggested that in addition to aircraft leasing and purchase arrangements, COMAC work with Vietnamese firms to establish infrastructure that supports the aviation industry, including service hubs and high-quality workforce training. He also encouraged joint initiatives in satellite and aerospace development.

Highlighting the potential for growth in Vietnam’s aviation sector, Chinh reaffirmed the Government’s policy of encouraging high-tech Chinese firms to invest in key infrastructure areas such as road, rail, and air transport. He noted that the visit by Xi Jinping would result in the signing of several cooperation agreements, including those in the aviation sector.

Chinh emphasized that Vietnam is ready to facilitate international airline operations and air connectivity with other countries, aiming to promote trade, tourism, and broader socio-economic development.

Chairman He expressed appreciation for the Vietnamese Government’s support, particularly in legal facilitation for COMAC aircraft operations in Vietnam. He noted the rapid rise of COMAC over the past 17 years, during which it has become a major aircraft manufacturer supplying global clients.

Echoing Prime Minister Chinh’s view on new global development trends, He voiced support for expanding cooperation with Vietnamese firms beyond aviation transport into aircraft manufacturing and the broader aerospace industry.

He also praised Vietnam’s open and dynamic economic environment under the leadership of the Party, saying he was confident the country would continue to thrive.

The COMAC chairman’s visit comes as both nations look to deepen bilateral ties, with aviation identified as a key sector for collaboration.
