HCMC – Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung will lead a high-level Vietnamese delegation to the 48th ASEAN Summit in Cebu of the Philippines from May 7 to 8.
This will be his first foreign visit in his capacity as prime minister. The visit is made at the invitation of Philippine President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr., Chair of ASEAN 2026.
Under the theme “Navigating Our Future, Together,” the summit marks a pivotal first year in implementing the ASEAN Community Vision 2045. Amid complex global uncertainties, particularly tensions in the Middle East affecting energy security and supply chains, Vietnam will join other member states in strengthening unity, enhancing resilience, and reinforcing ASEAN’s central role in the regional architecture.
At the summit, Vietnam has clear priorities to contribute substantively to the bloc’s agenda. The Vietnamese delegation will work closely with partners to advance strategic plans across political-security, economic, and socio-cultural pillars, while proposing initiatives such as an ASEAN response framework to address spillover impacts from global volatility. Vietnam will also underscore the importance of international law, maintaining peace and stability in the East Sea, and deepening ties with strategic partners.
In addition to multilateral sessions, the Vietnamese government leader is expected to hold his first bilateral meetings in the new role with ASEAN leaders. These engagements aim to bolster political trust and promote practical cooperation in areas such as the digital economy, green growth, and innovation, thereby creating fresh momentum for Vietnam’s relations with fellow member states.
Vietnam’s proactive and active participation at the 48th ASEAN Summit reaffirms its image as a responsible and sincere partner, committed to contributing to a peaceful, sustainable, and people-centered region.
