Vietnam records nearly 12,000 new Covid infections

HCMC – The Ministry of Health this evening, November 24 confirmed 11,811 fresh Covid cases, with 22 of them imported and 11,789 locally infected in 59 cities and provinces, up 663 cases over yesterday.

Among the domestic infections, HCMC reported the highest case number at 1,666, up 462 cases day-on-day, followed by Can Tho with 766, Tay Ninh with 754, Binh Duong with 696 and Dong Thap with 625.

Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Dong Nai, Vinh Long, Binh Thuan, Soc Trang and Bac Lieu detected 418 to 586 infections each, while the rest were reported in other localities.

Since the ongoing fourth wave of the pandemic began in late April, Vietnam has reported over 1.15 million domestic Covid cases, with 934,444 Covid patients having recovered and been discharged from hospitals.

The ministry also reported 125 new Covid fatalities today, raising the country’s Covid death toll to 24,243.

The latest deaths included 62 in HCMC, 15 in Binh Duong, 11 in Dong Nai, five each in Kien Giang and Ca Mau, four in Soc Trang and three each in Tay Ninh, Dong Thap and Can Tho. Binh Thuan, Long An, Bac Lieu, Tra Vinh, Ha Giang, Khanh Hoa, Daklak, Ninh Thuan, Binh Phuoc and Hau Giang provinces had one or two deaths each.

Over two million doses of Covid vaccine were administered nationwide today, taking the total number of doses given to people to 112.9 million.

In related news, as the number of Covid infections in Hoa Binh Province is rising, the provincial government has decided to establish the first Covid field hospital, with 150 beds, in Hoa Binh City’s Ky Son Ward. The field hospital will admit and treat Covid patients in the province.

Hoa Binh Province today detected 63 Covid infections, up 28 cases against yesterday.

The province is treating over 140 Covid patients, while quarantining more than 1,600 people at concentrated facilities.

Elsewhere in Thua Thien-Hue Province, due to a surge of new Covid infections, the provincial government today issued an urgent dispatch asking communes, wards and towns to mobilize anti-Covid forces to keep a close watch on the Covid situation and check the compliance with Covid safety measures among residents.

Besides, the communes, wards and towns must speed up the vaccination process and get ready to set up pop-up healthcare stations to treat Covid patients.
