Vietnam reports 21 new Covid-19 infections

HCMC – The Health Ministry has just confirmed 21 fresh cases of Covid-19 this evening, August 8, with 15 locally-transmitted cases related to Danang City, which is now the largest coronavirus hotspot in Vietnam, and one imported case that was quarantined upon arrival in Hanoi.

The imported case is a 17-year-old resident in the southern province of Binh Duong. He was sent to a quarantine facility after arriving home from the U.S. on August 6 on Flight VN2, which landed at Noi Bai airport in Hanoi.

The 20 cases of local transmission included 15 in Danang, two in neighboring Quang Nam Province, two in the northern province of Bac Giang, and one in the south-central province of Khanh Hoa.

The two Covid-19 patients in Quang Nam, including one hospital patient and one visitor at Danang Hospital, are being treated at Quang Nam Central General Hospital.

Regarding the two cases in Bac Giang, they are undergoing treatment at the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Hanoi. They had visited Danang from July 21 to 24.

The remaining 15 cases in Danang include one health worker, one hospital patient, and 13 coming into close contact with confirmed Covid-19 patients.

With these 21 latest additions, Vietnam saw daily new infections reach 26 today.

To date, the country’s tally has amounted to 810 cases, with 385 recoveries and 10 deaths.

The number of Covid-19 cases from community transmission has hit 353 since July 25. These cases were reported in 13 provinces and cities and are linked to the Danang coronavirus hotspot.
