Vietnam sees lowest daily Covid case count since last July

HCMC – The Ministry of Health today, May 22, announced 1,319 fresh Covid cases in 42 provinces and cities across Vietnam, which is the lowest daily case count since July last year.

Hanoi still took the lead in the case number with 347 cases, followed by the northern province of Bac Ninh with 138 cases. The remaining localities saw fewer than 100 cases each, including HCMC reporting 12 cases only.

Vietnam up to now has had over 10.7 million cases. Of this, there are over 9.4 million recoveries and 43,075 deaths, including the latest 8,495 recoveries recorded today. The country today reported no new Covid deaths.

The number of Covid fatalities in the country over the past two weeks has remained low, at 10 cases per week on average, with some days seeing no deaths linked to the coronavirus.

Meanwhile, 211 active Covid patients are on ventilators.

As of May 21, more than 219 million Covid vaccine doses had been administered to people in the country. Of them, over 198 million doses had been given to people aged 18 and above; around 17.4 million doses injected to children aged 12-17; and over 3.4 million doses given to children aged 5-11.
