HCMC – Vietnam will launch a nationwide crackdown on intellectual property (IP) violations from May 7 to 30, targeting major piracy websites and counterfeit goods while ramping up enforcement actions across sectors.
Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung has signed Official Dispatch No. 38/CĐ-TTg, ordering authorities to act with “no exceptions and no off-limits areas” in combating IP infringements.
The campaign will focus on dismantling high-traffic copyright-infringing websites, particularly illegal platforms offering films, music, and video games. The Government has set a target of increasing the number of handled cases involving copyright violations, counterfeit goods, and industrial property infringements by at least 20% compared to the same period in 2025. To ensure effectiveness, local leaders are required to immediately establish inter-agency task forces, led by themselves, to directly oversee enforcement at the local level.
During the campaign, the Ministry of Public Security will take the lead in verifying, investigating, and prosecuting serious cases involving copyright, trademarks, and geographical indications. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will step up inspections of software copyright compliance at enterprises and digital content on online platforms. Market surveillance forces and customs authorities have also been instructed to tighten control over counterfeit goods in the domestic market and at border gates, proactively suspending customs clearance where IP violations are suspected.
The decisive implementation of this directive is expected to deliver tangible improvements, contributing to a more transparent business environment and enhancing Vietnam’s standing in international integration. Ministries, sectors, and localities are required to submit daily rapid reports on major cases to the Ministry of Science and Technology for consolidation and reporting to the prime minister.
Following this peak campaign, IP enforcement will continue on a regular, focused, and sustained basis nationwide.
