HCMC – The Ministry of Finance will use VND742.6 billion from the national Covid-19 vaccine fund to purchase and transport five million doses of Cuba’s Abdala Covid-19 vaccine.
On September 30, Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai signed a decision approving the expenditure, the local media reported.
Under the decision, the finance ministry was tasked with the payment, while the Ministry of Health was assigned to report the spending and process to the prime minister.
The use and management of the funding must be conducted in an effective and transparent manner and in line with prevailing regulations.
Earlier on September 20, the Government agreed to purchase 10 million doses of the Abdala Covid-19 vaccine, produced by Cuba’s Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology.
The Ministry of Health approved the Abdala Covid-19 vaccine for emergency use on September 17, making it the eighth Covid-19 vaccine approved for use in Vietnam, after AstraZeneca, Johnson & Johnson, Moderna, Pfizer, Sinopharm, Sputnik V and Hayat-Vax.
As of September 30, over 50.7 million doses of Covid vaccines had arrived in Vietnam. The country has administered some 32.7 million doses to the people nationwide.
