HCMC – The Ministry of Health announced 2,709 new Covid infections today, May 3, declining 413 cases against yesterday.

The capital city of Hanoi reported the most cases, at 711, followed far behind by Phu Tho with 242 cases. Yen Bai, Quang Ninh, Tuyen Quang, Vinh Phuc, and Nghe An reported 110-150 cases each. The other provinces saw fewer than 100 cases each, including HCMC with 19.

Vietnam recorded no new Covid deaths today, and saw 1,825 new recoveries.

Until now, the country has reported over 10.6 million infections, including over 9.2 million recoveries and 43,044 deaths.

HCMC has disbanded the Covid field hospitals that had suspended operations earlier. Nguyen Van Vinh Chau, deputy director of the HCMC Health Department, today said that this move is part of the department’s plan to reorganize the Covid treatment system in the city, VnExpress news site reported.

The plan will be submitted to the municipal government for approval and implementation in the upcoming time if the Covid situation shows no abnormal development after the Reunification Day (April 30) and International Labor Day (May 1) holiday.

The dismantlement of the Covid field hospitals was decided after the Covid development in the city became more stable, with only four communes/wards now at moderate risk of Covid transmission. Further, the city currently has less than 5,000 active cases, with most of them now under home treatment. The number of critical cases on ventilators has fallen to below 20 while no more Covid deaths have been reported over the past three weeks.
