Vietnam’s new Covid cases continue slipping

HCMC – The Ministry of Health this evening, May 23, confirmed 1,179 new Covid infections in 43 cities and provinces, down by 140 cases against the day earlier.

Hanoi City still recorded the highest number at 332, followed by Vinh Phuc with 75 and Quang Tri with 72.

Among more than 10.7 million Covid cases detected in Vietnam so far, over 9.4 million have recovered from the disease.

The ministry announced one Covid death in Quang Ninh Province today, taking the country’s coronavirus death toll to 43,076.

Nearly 36,000 Covid vaccine doses were administered on May 22, raising the total nationwide to more than 219.1 million doses.

More than 19 million Vietnamese people have been issued a Covid vaccine passport since the country started issuing the digital certificate a month ago, the local media reported.

As of May 12, Vietnam had achieved the mutual recognition of Covid vaccine passports with 20 countries, including the United States, Britain, Australia, Japan, India, South Korea, New Zealand, Turkey, Singapore, and Malaysia.
