HCMC – More than 2.75 million visitors came to the Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang in the first quarter of this year, soaring by 22.1% over the same period last year and representing 30% of the province’s 2024 target.
International tourists accounted for 290,650, a 49.5% surge from the year-ago period.
The province put its tourism revenue at nearly VND7.3 trillion, up by 35.6% year-on-year and meeting 36.4% of the full-year target.
Challenges persist, particularly a decline in domestic flights to the island and a rise in air ticket prices, which discourage domestic travelers from coming to the island.
Efforts are underway to encourage local tourism businesses to offer promotions, discounts, and incentives to visitors.
