VN-Index jumps 2.4% on strong bank, property gains

HCMC – The VN-Index rose 42.82 points, or 2.44%, to close at 1,796.85, with advancing stocks outnumbering decliners by more than four to one.

A total of 273 stocks made gains while 67 others fell on the Hochiminh Stock Exchange. Trading volume on the southern bourse reached 1.15 billion shares, up 24.6% from the previous session. Trading value increased 12.5% to VND31.95 trillion. Block deals accounted for 338 million shares worth VND7.95 trillion.

Bank stocks were among the main contributors to the rally.

VCB trimmed earlier gains to close up 2.54% at VND64,700 after rising more than 4% in the morning. STB also narrowed its advance, ending up 2.7% at VND61,100. EIB held at its ceiling price of VND21,400, with matched volume of more than 6.5 million shares.

VPB rose 6.39% to VND28,300, while MBB gained 4.13% to VND29,000. HDB and TPB advanced 3.73% and 3.27%, respectively. BID increased nearly 3% to VND48,500. Other lenders including ACB, VIB, CTG and TCB rose more than 2%. No banking stock ended lower.

Securities firms also advanced. Only APG ended unchanged. SSI added 4.17% to close at VND31,200, while VIX rose 4.72% to VND22,200. VND and VDS climbed more than 3%. FTS, VCI, HCM and VPX picked up over 2%.

Several real estate and construction-related stocks hit their daily upper limits, including DLG, TCH, HHS, DXS, GEX and CRV.

VIC surged 6.57% to VND150,800. DXG and DIG both touched their ceiling prices before easing slightly to close up 6.46% and 5.21%, respectively. CRE and NLG edged up more than 5%, while CII and NVL rose over 4%.

In contrast, oil and gas stocks declined. GAS fell 5.29% to VND102,000 and PLX dropped 3% to VND51,700. PVD reversed course to close slightly higher.

Lender MBB took the lead by liquidity with nearly 105 million shares traded, followed by SHB with 59.3 million shares. DXG, VIX, HDB, VPB, HPG and SSI each saw trade volume of between more than 22 million and nearly 37 million shares.

On the Hanoi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index increased by 2.09 points, or 0.82%, to 255.86. Advancers outnumbered decliners 97 to 54. Trade volume totaled 61.2 million shares valued at VND1.51 trillion.
