HCMC – The Vietnam Road Administration is seeking approval from the Ministry of Transport for a project to upgrade a National Highway 15D section running from Ho Chi Minh Road to the La Lay International Border Gate in the central province of Quang Tri.
The project will help enhance the road with a maximum speed of 60 kilometers per hour and a road width of nine meters.
The proposed upgrade requires an investment of VND1,458 billion, with nearly VND1,100 billion allocated for construction costs and VND42 billion for site clearance and resettlement.
Funding for the project will come from the State budget, G-bond sales, and other sources outlined in the Ministry of Transport’s medium-term public investment plan for the 2026-2030 period. The project is scheduled for implementation between 2026 and 2028.
According to the Vietnam Road Administration, this route serves as a critical link between the east and the west of Quang Tri Province, playing a significant role in the socio-economic development and defense security of the province and the northern central region.
National Highway 15D is also part of an economic corridor linking Quang Tri in Vietnam, Salavan in Laos, and Ubon Ratchathani in Thailand.
Leaders of the Vietnam Road Administration emphasized the importance of upgrading this section of National Highway 15D to make it more convenient for vehicles to pass through the La Lay International Border Gate.
