HCMC – Vice State President Vo Thi Anh Xuan now serves as acting State President after the 15th National Assembly (NA), at its third extraordinary session in Hanoi this afternoon (January 18), discharged Nguyen Xuan Phuc from the post of State President of Vietnam.
Late this afternoon NA Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue represented the NA Standing Committee to sign an announcement of the NA Standing Committee on the right of Vo Thi Anh Xuan to work as acting State President.
Vo Thi Anh Xuan was born in 1970 in Thoi Son Commune, Tinh Bien District, An Giang Province. She is a member of the 12th and 13th Central Party Committees.
Xuan holds this new position until the NA’s election of a new President. Article 93 of the 2013 Constitution states: “When the State President is not in office for a long time, his or her Vice State President will serve as acting President.”
But “when the position of State President is vacated, the Vice State President will take over as acting President until a new President is elected by the NA.”
In the 2016-2021 tenure, after State President Tran Dai Quang passed away in September 2018, Vice State President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh served as acting President.
