HCMC – Site clearance for HCMC’s second metro line, connecting Ben Thanh Market in District 1 and Tham Luong depot in District 12, is nearly complete, paving the way for construction to begin by the end of 2025.
According to Ho Ngoc Nghia, deputy head of the Management Authority for Urban Railways (MAUR), site clearance is 99.83% finished, with only the District 3 Police headquarters awaiting land handover.
The transfer process between the Ministry of Public Security and the city police is expected to be finalized within the first quarter, according to the Vietnam News Agency.
The relocation of technical infrastructure for the project is already underway and is scheduled for completion in the third quarter.
Meanwhile, HCMC has tasked MAUR with developing a detailed implementation plan for Metro Line No. 2, aligning with a pilot resolution on special policies for urban railway development in HCMC and Hanoi.
Approved in 2010 and revised in 2019, the project has a total investment of VND47.89 trillion. This urban railway will span 11 kilometers, including 9 kilometers underground and 2 kilometers elevated, with 11 underground stations and one elevated station. It will run through districts 1, 3, 10, 12, Tan Binh, and Tan Phu.
Initially, the project was planned to be funded through ODA loans from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the KfW Development Bank (KfW), and the European Investment Bank (EIB), with MAUR as the project owner.
However, the HCMC Party Committee later decided to transition the project to city budget funding to ensure continued progress.
