Work starts on air traffic control tower of Long Thanh airport

HCMC – The air traffic control tower and supporting facilities of the Long Thanh International Airport project in Dong Nai Province got off the ground today, September 29, according to the Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM).

The tower is part of the second subproject for flight control facilities of the first phase of the multi-billion-dollar international airport of the country.

The subproject will cover 70,000 square meters and cost VND3.5 trillion, mobilized by VATM, which was appointed as the investor by the prime minister.

The 123-meter-tall air traffic control tower will be developed in the shape of a bamboo shoot. The tower and supporting facilities will span an area of 24,000 square meters.

Other flight control facilities are a radar station, a transceiver station and automatic surveillance systems, a weather radar station, directional radio beacon systems, warning systems, information systems and medium voltage power distribution and control systems.

The second subproject will be put into operation in 2025 when the first phase of the Long Thanh International Airport project is completed.

The Long Thanh airport will be executed in three phases, covering 5,000 hectares and requiring over VND300 trillion, or US$16 billion, in investment.

When in place, the big-ticket airport will have four runways, four passenger terminals and supporting facilities. The airport will handle 100 million passengers and five tons of cargo annually.
