HCMC – Custom clearance activities resumed this morning, May 30, at a pontoon bridge crossing in Mong Cai City, Quang Ninh Province, after a three-month hiatus due to Covid.
Following the reopening of this border crossing, 30 trucks carrying goods and fabrics imported from China into Vietnam and 30 empty trucks remaining at Thanh Dat port conducted customs clearance procedures to cross the pontoon bridge this morning, reported Thanh Nien newspaper.
Aside from commodities and fabrics shipped to Vietnam from China, the customs forces of the two sides are rushing to carry out customs clearance for over 400 empty trucks that have been stranded at the Thanh Dat port and China’s Dongxing City. Then, they will handle trucks transporting dry goods, fresh or frozen seafood, fruits, and farm produce, the government of Mong Cai City said.
Customs clearance activities will start from 8:00 to 16:00 (local time) every day, which means 9:00-17:00 (Beijing time).
This pontoon bridge crossing, which is part of the Mong Cai international border gate, is the largest custom clearance site for farm produce between the northern province of Quang Ninh and Dongxing City. The over-three-month suspension has significantly affected hundreds of businesses and thousands of employees.
The suspension was attributed to China’s implementation of “Zero Covid” policy. Under this policy, people were asked to refrain from venturing out, which left a negative impact on trading activities of Quang Ninh.
The resumption of custom clearance is expected to facilitate import-export activities and the consumption of farm produce.
