HCMC – The Ba Ria-Vung Tau police have cracked down on a large-scale substandard gasoline production ring in Phu My Town, detaining the 38-year-old ringleader and seizing coloring powder, octane testing equipment and relevant documents.
The Investigation Police Division on Economic, Corruption-related Crimes and Smuggling under the provincial Department of Police on June 19 arrested Vo Hoai Phuong for allegedly trading and producing substandard gasoline. Phuong lives in Ben Tre Province and is the legal representative of the Gia Khiem Vung Tau gas station run by Gia Khiem Trading and Transport Company.
At 7:40 p.m. on June 18, the investigators teamed up with the police of Phu My Town to catch Phuong and many others red-handed pumping chemicals from a tank truck containing over 10 tons of chemicals into a fuel storage tank at the gas station in Hac Dich Ward, Phu My Town.
Meanwhile, some other tank trucks contained 20,000 liters of gasoline pumped from the gas station’s fuel storage sump and were set to transport the fuel to other sites in the province for consumption.
The police found that the substandard fuel was produced at the Gia Khiem Vung Tau filling gas station from June 15, the local media reported.
