HCMC – To mark the 8th International Yoga Day, this morning, June 21, nearly 1,000 people got together on the pedestrian street of Nguyen Hue in downtown HCMC to practice yoga with an Indian yoga instructor.
In the bustling atmosphere, the yogis performed many typical poses with an aim of promoting positive energy, a love for yoga and a healthy lifestyle in the community.
Hoang Ngoc Lan from District 4, HCMC, said she was excited to join the group performance.
“I have practiced yoga before, but this is the first time I am performing in a crowded public place like this. We help each other do the basics of yoga well. The yoga instructor also encouraged me,” she said, adding, “This will be an everlasting memory.”
The event was jointly organized by the Consulate General of India in HCMC, the HCMC Department of Foreign Affairs, the HCMC Union of Friendship Organizations and the Indian Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam.
Apart from the group performance, there were other exciting activities, such as a lamp-lighting ceremony and praying for peace and happiness, among others.
Themed “Yoga for Humanity,” the event was held to spread the spirit of community and a sustainable lifestyle in harmony with the planet after a hard time during the Covid-19 pandemic outbreak.
