HCMC – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, on behalf of the Party and State leaders and people of Vietnam, sent a message of condolences to the President of the Liberal Democratic Party and PM of Japan, Kishida Fumio, over the death on July 8 of former PM Abe Shinzo.
Chinh extended the deepest sympathy to the Japanese Government, the Japanese and the bereaved family, and expressed his appreciation for Abe’s special sentiment and valuable support to the country and people of Vietnam, as well as the extensive strategic partnership between the two countries.
The same day, Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son also sent his condolences to his Japanese counterpart Hayashi Yoshimasa.
Before that, chief cabinet secretary of Japan Hirokazu Matsuno held a press briefing over the assassination of former PM Abe Shinzo on the morning of July 8 in the western Japanese city of Nara.
The 67-year-old Abe was shot from behind while speaking at a train station in Nara at 11:30 a.m local time by a man using a handmade gun. Police arrested the suspected gunman at the place of the attack.
The former PM was airlifted to Nara Medical University Hospital for treatment, but pronounced dead at 17:03 local time.
Former PM Abe Shinzo was born in 1954 in Tokyo. During his political career, he served as Japanese prime minister from 2006 to 2007 and from 2012 to 2020, leading the Liberal Democratic Party from 2012-2020. He was known for his signature economic strategy that popularly came to be known as “Abenomics”.
