As a private tech firm, CMC Corporation has been always consistent in its philosophy of integrating production and business activities with social responsibility over the past 29 years since its inception. Therefore, the corporation has wholeheartedly conducted corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities.
Funding healthcare programs
On June 20, CMC donated VND290 million to help 29 children with a cleft lip and cleft palate undergo surgeries.
The humanitarian surgery program was jointly held by Operation Smile Vietnam, the Vietnam-Cuba Hospital and benefactors with an aim to bring smiles to Vietnamese children.
Nguyen Thanh Luu, head of CMC Corporation’s Marketing and Communications Department, said Vietnam annually needs to perform 2,500 surgeries for cleft lip or palate children. The cost of VND10 million for each surgery is not a huge amount for rich families, but it is a big burden for the poor.
“After 45-minute surgeries costing VND10 million each, disadvantaged children will have a new life, be more confident and can contribute greatly to society,” Luu added.
The VND290-million fund was mobilized from CMC’s employees, customers and CMC & Friends runners, who participated in the CMC Speed Up race.
With every kilometer recorded by runners, CMC will contribute VND1,000 to Operation Smile Vietnam. The program attracted nearly 2,500 runners nationwide who ran nearly 430,000 kilometers in total in 30 days.
Luu said CMC Corporation funded the surgeries of 29 children as the corporation celebrates its 29th anniversary in 2022.
This is the second consecutive year CMC has held the running program to make donations to Operation Smile Vietnam. On the occasion of its 28th anniversary in 2021, the corporation’s Inspiring Run CMC 28 attracted more than 2,000 runners, helping 28 children with a cleft lip and cleft palate undergo surgeries.
CMC Chairman Nguyen Trung Chinh said that “during 29 years of establishment and development, CMC has always demonstrated our responsibility to the community through practical charitable activities. At CMC, the production and business development goes hand in hand with the responsibility to society and the community, contributing to developing Vietnam into a strong and prosperous country.”
Over the past two years, when the country has been hit by the Covid-19 pandemic, more than 4,500 executives and employees of CMC have contributed more than VND50 billion to the Covid fund, as well as medical equipment and supplies to frontline hospitals in Hanoi and HCMC.
On January 12 this year, CMC presented a server system valued at VND400 million to the Hanoi Medical University Hospital to facilitate its medical checkup and treatment.
Nguyen Thanh Binh, deputy director of the hospital, said although the hospital had been operating for a long time, it still faced a shortage of equipment. The server, together with 40 computers presented earlier, would help the hospital improve its services.
In September last year, CMC also donated three high-flow nasal cannulas (HFNCs) worth VND1 billion to the hospital. In addition, CMC provided computers and a CMS server worth VND600 million produced by CMC to the Hanoi Medical University Hospital’s Covid-19 hospital.
The computers and server system have helped the hospital manage medical records. They were especially useful in the Covid-19 treatment method which minimized contact between patients and medical workers.
Last October, CMC presented a Covid-19 PCR testing system worth VND5.2 billion to the Hoc Mon General Hospital.
Dang Quoc Quan, director of the hospital, said that during the pandemic, the demand for equipment was high, so CMC’s gift was valuable.
The hospital could take the initiative in testing hundreds of thousands of samples instead of sending them to the municipal Center for Disease Control (CDC). Without benefactors like CMC, the hospital would find it hard to tackle the pandemic.
On August 17 and 18 last year, CMC also gave the Hanoi Medical University Hospital and the Hanoi Lung Hospital three HFNCs each with a total cost of VND2 billion.
To support medical workers at the Vietnam National Children’s Hospital in Covid-19 vaccinations, CMC presented this hospital face masks and protective suits valued at VND1 billion on August 19, 2021.
According to Trinh Ngoc Hai, deputy director of the hospital, consumable supplies and equipment were essential during the pandemic. CMC’s gifts were a motivation for frontline medical workers.
In addition to frontline hospitals, CMC supported the local authorities and people who struggled to overcome the difficulties triggered by the pandemic. In specifics, CMC donated 40 computers worth VND600 million to Bac Tu Liem District and VND1 billion to Cau Giay District.
The corporation also offered 50 Godex G500 barcode printers, 300 stamp decals and 50 Premium Wax stamp ink rolls worth a total of VND300 million to the Hanoi CDC. The equipment was used to print stamps for residents arriving at hospitals, healthcare centers and vaccination sites. CMC also provided Hanoi with smart monitoring devices costing VND6 billion.
Supporting underprivileged students
In response to the “mobile connectivity and computers for students” program launched by the Prime Minister, on December 30 last year, Nguyen Phuoc Hai, senior vice president of CMC, handed over 2,000 tablets to the Hanoi Department of Education and Training.
The 2,000 tablets were later provided to poor students who had no online learning equipment in 15 districts, 51 high schools, two specialized schools and 13 vocational training centers in the city.
Hai said the 2,000 tablets were the Samsung-branded ones distributed by CMS, a subsidiary of CMC. The tablets had a small size and good wifi connectivity, helping millions of students learn online during the social distancing period.
CMC believed the tablets would help students access knowledge and no one would be left behind.
In November 2021, CMC also presented 400 CMS computers worth VND4 billion produced by CMC to poor students in 10 suburban districts of Hanoi, following a donation of 3,600 tablets presented two months earlier.
