HCMC – Can Tho City’s Binh Thuy District decided to put the Pataya Food Industries Company in the district on lockdown starting from 4 p.m. on July 22 until further notice, after the firm reported one Covid-19 infection, a local official confirmed.
Tran Thanh Binh, chairman of the district’s government, told Lao Dong newspaper that there are 1,084 workers in the locked down firm, which is located at the Tra Noc 1 Industrial Park in the district’s Tra Noc Ward.
The local anti-Covid steering committee and the ward told all workers of the firm to stay where they are. Local authorities were dispatched to the area to set up a Covid checkpoint and monitor the area on lockdown.
The firm allowed its workers to take paid leave three days ago after it found one person infected with the disease.
In related news, the Can Tho Department of Health yesterday decided to stop the pilot quarantine of direct contacts of confirmed Covid cases at home until further notice.
In another development, Cai Rang District in Can Tho has decided to lock down the GO! Supermarket in the district for disinfection starting from July 23 until further notice, as it was linked to coronavirus cases, said Nguyen Quoc Cuong, chairman of the district.
Earlier, the Center for Disease Control in Can Tho (CDC) suggested suspending the supermarket for 14 days starting from July 23 after the store reported three coronavirus cases.
CDC Can Tho sent this request to the municipal departments of Health, and Industry-Trade, and the Cai Rang District government, after the center worked with the EB Can Tho Company, which operates the GO! Supermarket in Can Tho.
As of yesterday, the supermarket had recorded three infections—its employees, 44 direct contacts and 111 indirect contacts. These cases had come into close contact with a lot of people, posing a high risk of transmission, according to CDC Can Tho.
EB Can Tho Company is located in Hung Phu Ward of Cai Rang District. It has over 260 employees.
