HCMC – The capital city of Hanoi will continue to implement the stay-at-home mandate that started on July 24 to facilitate large-scale testing to detect silent carriers of the coronavirus in the community, and Covid-19 vaccination for local residents.

The Standing Board of the city’s Party Committee has agreed to maintain the ongoing shelter-in-place order under the prime minister’s Directive 16, Nguyen Van Phong, deputy secretary of the municipal Party Committee, told a press briefing yesterday, August 20.

Speaking at the meeting, Tran Thi Nhi Ha, director of the Hanoi Health Department, said that during the on-going fourth coronavirus wave from April 27 to date, Hanoi recorded 2,695 coronavirus infections, including 1,262 cases in the community. The city has arranged 10,600 patient beds and 135 quarantine facilities that can accommodate nearly 43,000 people.

As for its vaccination drive, the city has administered over 1.7 million Covid vaccine doses, reaching over 20% of its target. Moreover, 48.5% of workers in industrial parks have been vaccinated against the disease.

The capital city has prepared to set up more healthcare facilities with a capacity of 10,000-30,000 beds. Besides, it asked the local competent agencies to deploy technology to serve the Covid fight, including upgrading the 115 Emergency Center and training more medical staff, Phong said.

Once the Covid resurgence is brought under control, the city will spend VND500 billion to support local residents to deal with employment issues. In addition, the city will support some other countries in the fight against the coronavirus and offer Covid relief aid comprising cash, medical supplies and necessities to HCMC and 18 southern localities, where the pandemic has taken a heavy toll, Phong added.
