HCMC – SMW3, the fifth undersea internet cable connected with Vietnam, has become choppy while the fixing of four other faulty submarine cables has yet to be completed.
An internet service supplier in Vietnam said on February 21 that errors have been detected on the SMW3 cable at the S2.7 section connected with Singapore. This is the last undersea cable linked with Vietnam which is still operational after the four other cables broke down in November 2022.
Therefore, five undersea cables connecting Vietnam with international networks have been entirely or partially disrupted.
Despite the above, a representative of the internet service provider VNPT, said, “The malfunctioning of the SMW-3 undersea cable will not remarkably impact internet traffic in Vietnam as we plan to cease the functioning of this cable due to its long service. We also do not use this cable’s capacity for fixed broadband internet services.”
Meanwhile, according to Viettel, as the problem occurs during the off-peak period, it has no serious impact on internet users.
