HCMC – Hoi An City’s Party Committee has proposed delaying the collection of an entrance fee for all tourists to the ancient town of Hoi An from May 15, the local media reported on April 8.

The authority of Hoi An will seek feedback from local residents and business households for the implementation of the plan.

Currently, they are striving to find the best ways to manage and control traffic to both prevent revenue loss and create a comfortable experience for tourists.

Hoi An needs to learn from other provinces, cities, and other countries to find an optimal plan, said Tran Anh, Party Secretary of Hoi An City.

Previously, the local authority planned to collect an entrance fee for all tourists from May 15. However, the plan has drawn fire from the public and experts.

As per the plan, the fee would be VND120,000 per foreigner and VND80,000 per Vietnamese visitor.

The money would be used to improve infrastructure, restore relics, and organize tourism events in the ancient town.

The plan was set to be implemented from May 15, with ticket sales available daily from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. during the summer and from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. during the winter.
