Vietnam reports 12,680 new Covid cases, 434 deaths

HCMC – The Ministry of Health this evening, September 8, confirmed 12,680 fresh Covid-19 cases, including 12,663 domestic infections in 39 localities, down 1,530 cases over yesterday, and 434 fatalities, including 99 deaths in August updated by Tay Ninh Province.

Among the locally-infected cases, HCMC continued recording the highest number at 7,308, down two cases against yesterday, raising the city’s caseload in the current fourth wave of Covid-19 to 273,154.

Binh Duong came second with 3,172 infections, down 794 cases, followed by Dong Nai with 814, Long An with 372 and Tien Giang with 171. The rest was reported in 34 other localities.

The latest cases have raised the country’s Covid-19 tally to 563,676, including 559,346 domestic infections reported in the latest wave of the pandemic, which began in late April.

As many as 325,647 Covid-19 patients have made a full recovery, with 13, 937 patients discharged from hospital today.

Also, the subcommittee for treatment under the national anti-Covid steering committee reported 335 new Covid-19 fatalities, including 268 in HCMC, 34 in Binh Duong, 11 in Dong Nai, eight in Long An, seven in Tien Giang, two each in Dong Thap and Vinh Long, and one each in Tra Vinh, Ben Tre and Khanh Hoa. In addition, Tay Ninh Province also updated 99 deaths.

Vietnam’s Covid-19 death toll has reached 14,135 to date, accounting for 2.5% of the total Covid-19 infections.

In related news, the provincial government of Lam Dong has decided to reopen dine-in eateries or restaurants, coffee shops, hotels and barbershops starting from 5.00 p.m. today after two months of suspension.

These facilities must operate at 50% of capacity at most and comply with Covid safety protocols, the local media reported.

Besides, exercise and tourism activities are allowed to resume, while people at supermarkets and wet markets must maintain a safe physical distance of two meters from each other.

The provincial government also asked residents to follow anti-virus measures, including wearing face masks in public places, making health declarations and washing hands with sanitizer, and stay at home from 10.00 p.m. to 5.00 a.m.

Lam Dong Province has basically brought the Covid-19 pandemic under control. The province has reported 259 Covid-19 infections in the ongoing fourth wave.

In another development, the Government has ordered the Ministry of National Defense and 10 northern provinces and cities to get ready to support Hanoi City in the fight against Covid-19 as the city is seeing the Covid-19 infections rising.

The 10 localities, including Bac Giang, Vinh Phuc, Bac Ninh, Hai Duong, Hung Yen, Haiphong, Ha Nam, Nam Dinh, Thai Binh and Hoa Binh, will help Hanoi City with tracing, testing, treatment and vaccinations.

Hanoi City reported 40 new Covid-19 cases today, raising the city’s count in the current fourth wave to 3,893.
