HCMC – The former Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan, Vu Hong Nam, has been forced to resign from his position by the Prime Minister due to serious violations committed while on duty.
Pursuant to a decision issued by the PM on June 8, disciplinary actions against Nam are effective from December 30, 2022.
Nam was charged and detained on December 22, 2022 by the Investigative Agency under the Ministry of Public Security.
A week later, the Secretariat concluded that Nam had exhibited degradation in political ideology, morality and lifestyle. He was found guilty of accepting bribes, violating the Party’s regulations and national laws, and breaching regulations for Party members.
Due to the seriousness of his violations, Nam was expelled from the Party as his actions caused frustration in society and seriously impacted the reputation of the Party organization and foreign affairs.
Nam, 60, had 34 years’ experience in the diplomatic field. Prior to his appointment as deputy minister of Foreign Affairs and chairman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnam, he served as assistant minister and office chief at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The criminal case of bribe giving, bribe taking, bribery brokering and misappropriation of assets during the execution of the Covid-19 repatriation flights involved many officials at the ministries of Foreign Affairs, Public Security, Health and Transport, the Government Office, and the Hanoi People’s Committee.
Vu Hong Nam is one of the 51 individuals accused of accepting bribes in this case over the past year.
