HCMC – Kon Plong District in the Central Highlands province of Kon Tum experienced a series of seven earthquakes from the night of July 11 to the morning of July 12, according to the Institute of Geophysics.
The most powerful quake, which is of magnitude 3.8, occurred at 6:50 a.m. on July 12 with a focal depth of around 8.1 kilometers.
The other six tremors struck the area between 11:02 p.m. on July 11 and 4:16 a.m. on July 12, ranging in magnitude from 2.7 to 3.4.
Fortunately, these tremors posed little risk of causing damage. Kon Plong District has been experiencing a regular occurrence of weak to mild quakes since 2021, with both frequency and magnitude increasing recently.
The strongest earthquake in recent years took place on the afternoon of August 23, 2022, with magnitude 4.7.
To enhance monitoring and response capabilities, the Institute of Geophysics has deployed additional monitoring stations in Kon Plong District. These stations will help better track and manage the earthquakes in the region.
