HCMC – To alleviate traffic congestion in the southern gateway area of the city, HCMC plans to spend over VND3,700 billion constructing a new bridge that will connect Saigon South with District 1.
This project is one of 10 projects that the Department of Transport will present to the HCMC People’s Committee for consideration before seeking approval from the city People’s Council at an upcoming session.
The Nguyen Khoai street and bridge project’s investment cost has been revised up from the previously approved VND1,250 billion to VND3,725 billion.
Pending approval for the updated plan, construction will commence in the fourth quarter of next year, with completion expected in three years.
With a total length of five kilometers, the Nguyen Khoai street and bridge project includes 2.5 kilometers of bridge and over 2.3 kilometers of road.
The bridge will begin at road D1, linking Saigon University to Nguyen Van Linh Street and the Him Lam residential area in District 7. The bridge’s main span over Te and Ben Nghe canals will be split into two branches, N7 and N8, to connect to both directions of Vo Van Kiet Avenue in District 1.
Upon completion, the project will alleviate traffic congestion in District 4 and relieve traffic pressure on the road axis from districts 7, 8, and Nha Be south of the city to the city center.
