HCMC – Vietnam’s Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has arrived in Budapest, starting his official visit to Hungary from January 18 to 20 at the invitation of his Hungarian counterpart Viktor Orban.

PM Chinh, along with his spouse and a high-ranking delegation, received a warm welcome at Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport on the afternoon of January 18 (local time). His three-day visit to Hungary follows his active participation in the World Economic Forum 2024 and other activities in Davos, Switzerland.

The Vietnamese leader is scheduled to hold talks with PM Orban, as well as other leaders and high-ranking officials of Hungary. He will attend a Vietnam-Hungary business forum, and other activities during the visit.

PM Chinh’s visit to Hungary is expected to create breakthroughs and impetus for the comprehensive partnership between the two countries, said Vietnamese Ambassador to the European nation Nguyen Thi Bich Thao.

Vietnam and Hungary established diplomatic relations on February 3, 1950, and elevated their relationship to a comprehensive partnership in 2018 on the occasion of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong’s official visit to Hungary.

Hungary is an Eastern Europe country that has provided the largest source of official development assistance (ODA) to Vietnam, with 440 million euros since 2017.

Meanwhile, Vietnam is the sole Southeast Asian country exporting a large volume of goods to Hungary. In 2020-2022, two-way trade between Vietnam and Hungary exceeded one billion U.S. dollars.
