HCMC – HCMC will remove all Covid checkpoints along streets in the city after September 30, while keeping in place the checkpoints at the gateways to the city, Nguyen Sy Quang, deputy director of the HCMC Police Department, told a press briefing today.
Speaking at the news conference on the city government’s latest directive on the Covid-19 response, Quang said that after September 30, the police would maintain the operations of 12 checkpoints at the gateways and 39 auxiliary checkpoints in the districts bordering other provinces.
After the removal, mobile patrol teams will conduct random checks on the movement of people and vehicles on the streets and conduct rapid Covid tests if necessary.
Residents will temporarily use the VNEID or Y te HCM mobile apps to step out instead of travel permits.
Besides, Quang asked migrant workers in HCMC not to leave the city to return to their hometowns on their own amid concerns over the possible spread of Covid-19.
“Those who intentionally leave the city and cause Covid-19 community transmission will face penal sanctions,” he added.
At the press briefing, HCMC Vice Chairman Le Hoa Binh said that the city would reopen schools step by step. Students are still participating in online classes.
The municipal Department of Education and Training is preparing school safety criteria and guidelines in line with the directives of the ministries of Education and Training and Health.
As students have yet to be vaccinated against Covid-19, it is dangerous for them to go out and attend in-person classes.
The city will vaccinate children after the Ministry of Health issues guidelines and suitable vaccine sources are available, said Nguyen Van Vinh, deputy director of the municipal Department of Health.
