For AIA Vietnam Life Insurance Co., Ltd., integrating community activities with business operations has been a long-term commitment. Since its establishment over 20 years ago, it has carried out innumerable activities and programs to support the community. Many of these programs and events, especially those aimed at children, have been maintained for many years, reflecting AIA’s commitment to the future generations of the country.
Focusing on disadvantaged children
AIA Vietnam Life Insurance Co., Ltd. (AIA Vietnam), a member of AIA Group, was established in 2000, and to date, the company has developed a network of over 200 offices nationwide.
Each year, AIA Vietnam conducts nearly 100 community-focused activities. These events and programs are diverse, targeting the educational and physical development needs of disadvantaged children.
One notable example is the “Journey of Life” program, raising funds to donate bicycles and free life insurance policies to disadvantaged students. The program, which has been running since 2014, is implemented in collaboration with the Vietnam Children’s Protection Fund under the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, the Traffic Police Department under the Ministry of Public Security, and the National Traffic Safety Committee.
To date, the program has donated 25,000 bicycles and over 700 life insurance policies, each worth VND20 million. These policies will mature when the children turn 18, helping them cover the costs of continuing their schooling. The program has reached children in over 50 provinces and cities nationwide.
Phung Ba Khang, deputy general director of Marketing and Value Planning Commitment at AIA Vietnam, stated that in 2024, AIA Vietnam will continue the “Journey of Life” program for its 11th year, with a commitment to donate more than 2,000 bicycles, sports equipment, school supplies, and thousands of gifts to disadvantaged children across the country.
Through the program, AIA Vietnam not only raises awareness about children’s rights and traffic safety, but also commits to realizing AIA Group’s goal of helping 10 million Vietnamese lead a healthier, longer and happier life by 2030.
Beyond the “Journey of Life” series, other impactful activities include the tree planting program for a green planet, with over 23,000 trees planted in the past three years; the “AIA’s Healthiest Schools” program; the “Waves and Computers for Children” initiative; disaster relief; awarding scholarships; providing free health check-ups; and organizing blood donation drives among others. The “AIA’s Healthiest Schools” project focuses on four main themes: healthy eating habits, active lifestyles, mental health, and sustainability. It is implemented in primary and secondary schools to encourage healthier, longer, and happier living.
Commitment to sustainable development
In the past five years, AIA Vietnam has invested nearly VND140 billion in corporate social responsibility (CSR) and sustainable development activities. In addition to AIA Vietnam’s budget, the company has also received active support and contributions from its employees, agents and customers.
In February 2024, AIA launched the “AIA Can” campaign, which is a green office initiative. This event calls on AIA employees nationwide to join in building ESG offices with six main pillars: waste management, energy saving, water saving, environmental health, sustainable procurement, and travel and transportation management.
This year, AIA Vietnam will continue environmental protection activities, conserving and developing Vietnam’s biosphere reserves, with a commitment to planting 5,000 trees in the “For a Green Planet” program at the Can Gio Mangrove Biosphere Reserve and the Xuan Thuy National Park in Nam Dinh.
The program involves contributions from the company’s leadership, employees, and agents through Vitality points accumulation challenges. Vitality is a wellness app that encourages and supports users in participating in physical and mental health activities, designed for AIA Vietnam’s employees and customers. So far, these challenges have translated into 2,040 trees.
The deputy general director for marketing noted that AIA Vietnam’s sustainable development and CSR activities are often integrated into the company’s long-term business strategy. “The leadership believes that sustainable development is not only a responsibility to society but also a crucial factor for achieving long-term business success,” Khang said.
“Each year, we allocate a portion of our budget to these projects and monitor their effectiveness through specific metrics to make necessary adjustments,” Khang emphasized.
According to him, CSR activities are an inseparable commitment within the company’s business development strategy. A company aiming for sustainable development needs to build trust among the public, current, and future customers. Through long-term CSR programs and business activities, the company’s image will spread widely within the community.
“When we build trust with customers and the public, our business will develop more sustainably and attract more talent,” Khang added.
Supporting Yagi-hit victims
In the wake of the severe damage caused by Typhoon Yagi in the northern region, AIA Vietnam launched a range of practical initiatives to support its customers and the affected communities.
As the typhoon and flooding ravaged the region, AIA Vietnam closely monitored the situation to identify affected customers with active insurance policies. Through its network of offices and sales teams in the impacted areas, the company confirmed the tragic loss of five customers—four in Hai Duong and one in Quang Ninh. In just over a day, AIA Vietnam completed the necessary procedures and disbursed more than VND6.5 billion in insurance benefits to the victims’ families.
On September 10, 2024, at the headquarters of the National Fund for Vietnamese Children, under the Ministry of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs, the company donated VND1 billion to support 1,000 households and children affected by Typhoon Yagi.
On September 22, 2024, representatives from AIA Vietnam visited Yen Bai Province and donated VND229 million to schools impacted by the typhoon. The donation included VND20 million in cash to Ly Thuong Kiet High School in Yen Bai City, VND50 million to An Lac Kindergarten, and VND50 million each to the communes of Dong Quan, Phuc Loi, and Trung Tam in Luc Yen.
Additionally, the team provided VND9 million to support three households in Trung Tam Commune whose homes were destroyed.
The AIA Quang Nam called on its agents and employees to contribute to supporting the people in the northern region. In response, AIA Quang Nam’s agents and staff raised a total of VND35.5 million in two rounds of donations. The entire amount was then sent to the affected communities in the northern provinces through the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Quang Nam Province.
