HCMC – Vietnam’s Party General Secretary and State President To Lam and his spouse are scheduled to pay a state visit to China from August 18 to 20, announced the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The visit is made at the invitation of China’s Party General Secretary and President Xi Jinping and his spouse.

This is his first visit to China since Lam took up the post of General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam’s Central Committee on August 3.

During the three-day visit, Lam is expected to hold talks with Xi, meet with other high-level Chinese officials, and engage in key activities in both Beijing and Guangzhou.

This visit comes at a time when Vietnam-China relations are on a positive trajectory, and it precedes the significant milestone of the two countries celebrating 75 years of diplomatic relations in 2025.

China remains Vietnam’s largest trading partner and the second-largest export market for the country. Conversely, Vietnam is China’s largest trading partner in ASEAN and the fifth-largest worldwide, following the U.S., Japan, South Korea, and Russia.

In 2023, two-way trade between Vietnam and China reached US$171.9 billion. In the first five months of 2024, the total import and export volume exceeded US$77 billion.

This visit is expected to further strengthen the relationship between the two nations, opening up more opportunities for bilateral cooperation, benefiting both nations, their people, and the region.
