HCMC – Authorities in Dong Nai Province have announced plans to acquire around 192.5 hectares of land, excluding transit-oriented development (TOD) areas, for the extension of the Ben Thanh–Suoi Tien metro line to Long Thanh International Airport.

The compensation, support and resettlement costs are estimated at more than VND4.3 trillion.

The plan was outlined in a recent notice issued by the province’s Land Development Center to facilitate site clearance for the project, which has a preliminary total cost of about VND60.3 trillion.

The metro extension to the Dong Nai provincial administrative center and Long Thanh airport has been approved in principle by the prime minister under an urgent implementation framework. To accelerate progress, the provincial People’s Committee has separated compensation, support, and resettlement into an independent subproject and assigned the Land Development Center as the investor.

This month, the center’s Bien Hoa branch will coordinate with relevant agencies and local authorities in Tran Bien, Bien Hoa, Long Hung, Phuoc Tan, and Tam Phuoc wards to conduct field surveys and collect data on affected land, housing, infrastructure, crops, schools, religious facilities, and businesses. The data will serve as the basis for estimating total compensation and resettlement costs.

The 44.6-kilometer line will start from the S0 station in Tan Van in HCMC, cross the Dong Nai River, and run along National Highway 1 to connect with the new administrative center of Dong Nai Province. It will then follow the planned Bien Hoa–Long Thanh railway corridor and DT.771 route, intersect the HCMC–Long Thanh–Dau Giay Expressway, and link to rail corridors leading directly to the airport.

The project will use a mass rapid transit (MRT) system and is expected to be implemented between 2025 and 2029 under a public-private partnership (PPP).
