HCMC – Vietnam and the U.S. have reached an agreement that will enable the export of passion fruit from Vietnam to the U.S. market, according to the Vietnam News Agency.

During a visit to Washington D.C., Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Hoang Trung met with Jason Hafemeister, U.S. acting deputy under secretary for Trade and Foreign Agricultural Affairs.

Both sides expressed satisfaction with the progress made in recent months, including the approval for U.S. peaches and nectarines to be exported to Vietnam. The meeting focused on further expanding agricultural trade between the two countries.

The technical requirements for Vietnamese passion fruit exports to the U.S. have been finalized, and the necessary legal procedures will now be initiated.

The U.S. has also begun reviewing the potential for importing other fruits from Vietnam, including guava and jackfruit.

Hafemeister highlighted the strong partnership between the U.S. and Vietnam, noting that such robust cooperation is unique. He reaffirmed the U.S. commitment to enhancing technical cooperation and capacity building in pest control, risk analysis, and research and development.

Trung underscored the significance of the U.S. market for Vietnam’s agricultural products and requested U.S. support in trade disputes involving agricultural goods such as timber, shrimp and honey.
