HCMC – The historic mansion of Tran Trinh Huy, known as the “Gentleman of Bac Lieu,” remains one of the most popular tourist attractions in the Mekong Delta province of Bac Lieu.

Huy, the second son of wealthy landowner Tran Trinh Trach, became a prominent figure in southern Vietnam thanks to his extravagant lifestyle and larger-than-life personality.

His legacy is best captured in the magnificent home located at 13 Dien Bien Phu, Ward 3, Bac Lieu City. Built in the 1930s, the house was constructed at Huy’s request, and his father spared no expense. Designed by a French engineer, the home was built using materials imported directly from Paris, showcasing the family’s wealth and refined taste.

The mansion features several unique aspects, such as two bedrooms designed for different seasons and an attic used to dry money collected from the family’s vast rice paddies and salt fields.

The house is also filled with antiques, some of which are over a century old. A notable highlight is a bed valued at over VND7 billion, along with many intricately carved pieces of furniture adorned with mother-of-pearl. The property, known for its distinctive design and historical value, continues to draw tourists who want to explore the legacy of one of the region’s most well-known figures.
