Just 20 kilometers from downtown Hue City, a quiet stretch of coast at the mouth of the Perfume River is becoming one of central Vietnam’s most atmospheric camping destinations, where calm waters, glowing sunsets and vivid sunrises unfold between the river and the sea.
Tucked away at the edge of Thai Duong Ha Village, Hai Duong Rock Embankment offers a different side of the ancient capital of Hue. Located beneath the newly opened Thuan An sea-crossing bridge, the site sits where the Perfume River empties into the East Sea, creating a landscape that feels both wild and unexpectedly serene.
What makes this place unique is the breakwater itself. Originally built to protect the shoreline, the structure has created a sheltered lagoon inside the embankment, forming what locals describe as a natural swimming pool. Shielded from strong waves and shifting sand, the water remains calm and shallow, making it ideal for families with children, groups of friends, and visitors looking to paddle a stand-up board in peaceful surroundings.
The scenery changes with the tide. Overnight, seawater rises quietly before retreating at dawn, revealing a stretch of smooth sand hidden within the stone barrier. The result is a rare coastal setting that feels safe, open and remarkably tranquil.
Camping overnight is the highlight of the experience. As evening falls, the sky glows in shades of amber behind Thuan An Bridge, creating a cinematic backdrop on the water. At sunrise, the scene transforms again as the sun rises over the horizon and fishing boats return to shore, bringing life and movement to the calm morning sea.
For those drawn to nature, Hai Duong Rock Embankment offers more than a campsite; it is a place to slow down and experience the gentle meeting point between Hue’s river landscape and the open sea.
