HCMC – The police cracked down on a transnational drug trafficking ring led by Kim Soon Sik, a former South Korean police officer, on July 19 in HCMC and seized 40 kilograms of methamphetamine hidden inside big granite blocks.

Earlier, at some 12:30 a.m. in the day at Cat Lai Port, the Ministry of Public Security’s Investigation Police Department on Drug-related Crimes teamed up with the military, customs forces and relevant agencies to raid a 20-feet container with cargo weighing some 30 tons, which was declared to be granite rocks, and discovered the drugs.

At the time of checking, the container was set to be sterilized before being shipped off to Incheon Port in South Korea.

The forces continued to raid five other locations in the city and detained Kim, with 20 years of work experience in the South Korean police force, and six other traffickers who are South Korean, Chinese and Vietnamese citizens.

According to investigators, this is the first time that Vietnam has stumbled upon a case wherein drugs were hidden under construction rocks.

The police have expanded the investigation into the case.
